a long overdue update...

So I haven't written here in a while. Lots has happened in my life... First of all, I moved. I live in a house now with a nice couple and two other cats. I have lots of windows and I can even go outside in the yard every now and then! I love sleeping in the laundry room up on the shelf over the washer and dryer, where I can assert my superiority over the other creatures in the house.

Then, about a month ago... everything that was wonderful suddenly turned horrible in a vicious downward spiral. It happened when she arrived... the one the humans call "Alice." Until Alice arrived I was the youngest and prettiest of all the felines in the house. Now I must play second fiddle to this slobbering kitten infant.

I was urinating in a corner in the dining room to make my displeasure known. That was discovered and confronted, yet still the infant remains. And I got in trouble! I did get a new blanket to sleep on though, which has made me content for a while, but I know that she is still around...

So anyway, dear journal, I am turning to you in need of advice. I'm sure others of you have experienced similar situations. We depend on the kindness of these humans who are enamoured with our feline ways, yet us gracefully aging felines are always snubbed for KITTENS! It is so unfair! They have no idea what it's like when they are at work. I want to watch CNN to catch up on international affairs but "Alice" insists on watching cartoons! "Sagwa." As if!

i've found an exciting and warm new place to sleep... on top of the computer! also from here i can keep an eye on my human and make sure he doesn't get up to any tomfoolery. although my annoyed glances don't seem to stop him from looking up at me occasionally and blurting out a horribly off-key "i've been loving you too long."

in other news, the windows were open much of the day today, and all of last night! now looking outside is truly fabulous in and of itself, but smelling and hearing outside too? WOWZA! it's almost more excitement than this gal can handle!

in regards to my last post...

mood: quixotic
music: the sugarcubes: "cat!"
i have decided against the catshow. do you know what they're doing to cats these days? they have inbred persians so much to have those beautiful "flat" faces that many of them have difficulty breathing. and the short-legged (or "no-legged") cats? don't get me started on that. it's disgusting. anyone who owns one should be put in a mental ward. i've had absolutely no genetic modificiations and i'm still the perfect pet.

now de-clawing is another topic all together, one i'm sure i will tackle when the wide expanse of floor isn't beckoning.

vanity killed the cat

mood: productive
music: siouxsie: "catwalk"
or that was curiosity wasn't it? anyway i'm going to be vain and show off this lovely pic that was taken of me last week. notice my resemblance to brooke shields in that old coppertone ad, with the winsome look back over the shoulder? i planned that.

isn't she lovely?

now i know this pic is good. probably the best i've ever had taken. i was thinking of submitting it for the "amateurs" page in "Playcat" magazine. but i have decided to put my prurient interests aside and enter myself as a "mixed breed" in the next national cat show. at least we might get some cash for that. someone around here needs to be bringing it in!

excuse me, i thought "whiska" ended with "-er"?

so it's become clear that my food has simply been changed. how did this occur without my input? I don't really see how the "whiskas" packs are preferable to my beloved fancy feast. now often I would leave a portion of the fancy feast uneaten, which may have seemed wasteful to my miserly master. however, it gave me a deep sense of comfort knowing that the leftovers were there should my next scheduled feeding be overlooked. now I must say he has been much better with feeding me at the same time everyday, but the whiskas dry out much faster than the more compact fancy feast. I'm not sure how to make my displeasure known. should I poop on the carpet? or accelerate my destruction of the wicker chair in the living room? comments are welcomed.

miss kittin

mood: flirty
music: "rippin kittin"!!!
I am quite intrigued by the recorded output of miss caroline herve, known to most listeners as miss kittin. now although my human grumbles about "electro" (what the hell does he think new order is?), he still treats me to some of her music about once a week. I have decided I greatly prefer her collaboration with golden boy, "or," to her more popular work with the hacker. of course my favorite is when she sings with felix da housecat, so I get a double cat-and-kitten whammy! wowza! someone call the cat-kitten love association!

finally!

mood: enthralled
music: the cure: "lovecats"
so that big dope has finally relinquished his spot at the computer to let me do some much-needed research and to begin my own blog.

the past few days have been mostly uneventful. the most excitement came last week when the creature the humans refer to as "lapsang" came to the house. now this creature, who seems to be a female of whatever her species is, has been over before, but we have usually steered clear of one another. miss lapsang was a little bolder this time and engaged me in conversation. she has some truly fascinating ideas about the potential war on iraq and "no blood for SUVs," and has been involved in many "barking demonstrations" in her neighborhood. now this makes me feel a little insecure about my own distanced political involvement. while I do keep up with the news much more than other members of this household, I still tend to do nothing about it but ponder and philosophize. what's a cat to do?
